Penguin Chiller with Fittings
Penguin's Cold Therapy Chiller keeps an ice bath cold without the ice: a 3/4 HP, 7,500 BTU/hr chiller with a built-in pump and a 10 ft GFCI-protected cord.
Keeping an ice bath cold with bag after bag of ice is a chore. This chiller keeps the water cold for you and turns your ice bath into an iceless bath.
How cold it gets
Penguin's lowest recommended set point is 37°F (2.8°C). The chiller can reach the low 40s °F, and the high 30s in the right conditions. On a setup of around 100 gallons, low to mid 40s °F should be possible even in full sun. Ambient temperature and sun exposure make up most of the heat load, so reducing them improves performance.
Setup
The built-in pump is not self-priming, so the tub must gravity-feed it. Place the chiller within 3 ft of the tub drain, with its bottom at the same height as the tub bottom or lower, never above the tub. It needs ventilation to shed heat, so keep it out of cabinets and closets. After delivery, or any time it is moved without staying level, let it stand upright for at least 2 hours before plugging it in.
Indoor and outdoor use
Rain proof, and usable indoors or outdoors except in freezing conditions. When temperatures reach freezing, disconnect the chiller and drain it completely. It cools only; it does not heat.
