The 23 x 42 stainless back wall plate (no hole) mounts behind the heater itself as a heat shield, protecting combustible wall surfaces and letting you reduce required clearance to combustibles per CSA B365. Most builds use both - one for the chimney pass-through, one behind the heater. The 23 x 30 stainless steel floor plate sits under the heater as floor protection, standard for any build with combustible flooring under the install zone.
